Nationals 8, Mets 2: Ryan Zimmerman went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and Tanner Roark rebounded from a rough opening frame to toss six strong innings as visiting Washington completed a three-game sweep of New York.

Zimmerman added an RBI single during a four-run seventh inning en route to his first four-hit game since July 28, 2011. Adam LaRoche recorded a two-run single and finished with three RBIs while Denard Span and Jayson Werth each knocked in a run to provide plenty of support for Roark (1-0), who allowed two runs and six hits on short notice after scheduled starter Jordan Zimmermann was scratched due to flu-like symptoms.

Zack Wheeler (0-1) dropped his fourth straight outing at home after surrendering three runs and seven hits over six frames. Curtis Granderson collected his first two hits as a Met - including an RBI double - after going hitless in his first nine at-bats and Juan Lagares contributed a sacrifice fly to drive in New York’s other run.

Roark yielded back-to-back one-out singles in the first before Granderson plated Daniel Murphy with the first of his two doubles and David Wright scored on Lagares’ fly to center. Zimmerman halved the deficit in the second, sending a 1-1 slider from Wheeler over the fence in left.

Washington jumped ahead on singles from Span and Werth in the fifth and blew the game open against relievers Scott Rice and Jeurys Familia in the seventh, highlighted by run-scoring singles by LaRoche and Zimmerman. LaRoche drew a bases-loaded walk off Carlos Torres in the eighth to plate the final run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York has dropped its last 32 contests at home in which it has surrendered at least five runs, including all three games of this series. ... Zimmermann was sent back to Washington to receive fluids; manager Matt Williams stated prior to Thursday’s game that he hoped Taylor Jordan would be ready on short rest for Friday’s home opener against the Atlanta Braves after he threw a simulated outing earlier this week. … The Mets allowed the first batter to reach in each of the first seven innings.
