Athletics 6, Twins 5: Coco Crisp registered a three-run triple and Scott Kazmir cruised through 6 2/3 innings as host Oakland built a large lead and held on to remain perfect versus Minnesota this season.
Eric Sogard recorded a two-run double while Stephen Vogt scored twice for the first-place Athletics, who moved four games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West while improving to 5-0 against the Twins in 2014. Kazmir (13-4) yielded five runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings and two relievers bridged the gap to Sean Doolittle, who worked around a lead-off single in the ninth for his 18th save.
Chris Parmelee had a two-run double while Trevor Plouffe, Oswaldo Arcia and Eduardo Nunez each drove in a run for the Twins, who have dropped three straight following a three-game winning streak. Kyle Gibson (10-9) was tagged for six runs - five earned - on five hits and five walks in five innings.
Oakland broke through for four runs against Gibson in the fifth as it loaded the bases for Crisp, who cleared them with a triple and scored later in the frame on a passed ball. The Athletics increased their lead an inning later when Josh Reddick drew a leadoff walk and Vogt singled before Sogard plated both with a double off reliever Anthony Swarzak to make it 6-0.
One day after Jon Lester was perfect through five innings, Kazmir retired the Twins in order over the first four frames before Kennys Vargas led off the fifth with a single. Minnesota rallied for five runs in the seventh, with Plouffe and Arcia delivering RBI singles and Parmelee chasing Kazmir with a two-run double before scoring on Nunez's two-base hit.
