Padres 4, Brewers 1: Abraham Almonte went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs while Tyson Ross recorded his 13th straight quality start as host San Diego evened the three-game series at one win apiece.

Yasmani Grandal recorded two hits and an RBI while Jedd Gyorko also drove in a run for the Padres, who won for just the fourth time in 12 games. Ross (12-12) held Milwaukee to one run and four hits while striking out six in 6 1/3 innings, allowing fewer than three earned runs for the 12th time in 13 outings.

Scooter Gennett plated the lone run while Jean Segura notched two of the five hits by the Brewers, who remained 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place St. Louis in the National League Central. Jimmy Nelson (2-5) saw his winless streak reach four starts as he yielded four runs - two earned - and five hits while striking out seven in five innings.

San Diego grabbed an early lead as Almonte deposited a 1-1 offering over the right-field wall in the first inning for his second blast of the season. The Padres increased their advantage in the third with a three-run rally that was ignited by Ross' lead-off double.

Almonte plated Ross with a single and, after an error by Milwaukee shortstop Segura, scored on a base hit by Grandal before Gyorko followed with a groundout that plated the final run. Gennett got the Brewers on the board in the fourth with an RBI ground-rule double, but Milwaukee did not get a runner past first base over the final five frames.
