Brewers 4, Giants 3: Gerardo Parra smacked a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning to lift host Milwaukee past San Francisco.

Carlos Gomez also homered as part of a three-RBI outing and Jimmy Nelson pitched seven strong innings for the Brewers, who remained one game ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central. Pablo Sandoval hit a three-run homer for the Giants, who fell 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Nelson (2-2) gave up three runs and six hits in seven innings and Jeremy Jeffress struck out Buster Posey with two on to end the eighth. Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 33rd save, with the final out occurring after Joe Panik was originally called safe on a grounder before Milwaukee challenged the call and it was reversed on review.

San Francisco trailed 3-0 in the sixth when Panik singled and Brandon Belt doubled before Sandoval followed with a tying blast to right. Parra smacked a two-out homer over the right-center field fence in the following inning against Jean Machi (6-1) for his first hit since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nelson singled with two out in the third inning and scored on Gomez’s homer to left off Giants starter Tim Lincecum. Milwaukee increased the lead to 3-0 in the fifth when Rickie Weeks doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Gomez’s safety-squeeze bunt single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Milwaukee 2B Scooter Gennett (quadriceps) and OF Khris Davis (elbow) were held out with minor injuries. … Lincecum struck out eight and allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. … The Brewers placed RHP Matt Garza (ribcage) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP Rob Wooten from Triple-A Nashville.
