Brewers 5, Pirates 3: Carlos Gomez homered and drove in two runs and Kyle Lohse worked into the seventh inning to lift visiting Milwaukee.

Scooter Gennett also drove in two runs for the Brewers while Mark Reynolds had two hits. Lohse (3-1) allowed three runs - one earned - and four hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Pirates starter Charlie Morton (0-2) was tagged for five runs and eight hits in six innings. Russell Martin had two RBIs for Pittsburgh.

Martin drove in a run in the first and third innings to give the Pirates an early 2-0 lead before Gennett's two-run double in the fourth drew Milwaukee even at 2. Martin Maldonado added an RBI single later in the frame and Gomez's fifth homer of the season - a 457-foot bomb - in the following inning made it 4-2.

Pittsburgh got within 5-3 on Andrew McCutchen's RBI double in the seventh. Four Milwaukee relievers combined to record the final eight outs, including Francisco Rodriguez, who got the final three outs for his fifth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lohse struck out five hitters while walking three and needed 110 pitches to get 19 outs. ... Pittsburgh 3B Pedro Alvarez went 0-for-5 to drop his average to .172. ... Gomez has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games
