Mariners 4, Angels 3:
Michael Saunders belted a two-run homer and Hisashi Iwakuma gave up four hits in 6 1/3 innings as host Seattle defeated Los Angeles.

Kendrys Morales and Dustin Ackley added solo shots as the Mariners remained alive in the American League wild-card race. Iwakuma (15-9) gave up two runs and struck out four for Seattle, which is two games behind Oakland with two to play.

Kole Calhoun and Mike Trout each hit a homer for the Angels, who lost for the fifth time in eight games. Jered Weaver (18-9) allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings in his final regular-season start.

Morales homered off Weaver in the second to start a three-run inning. Logan Morrison singled and Saunders followed with a shot to right for a 3-0 lead.

Ackley homered in the fifth to increase Seattle’s lead to four. Calhoun and Trout hit back-to-back homers in the sixth and Erick Aybar lined a run-scoring double in the ninth before Fernando Rodney retired the next two hitters to record his 48th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Angels RHP Matt Shoemaker (oblique) played long toss before Friday’s game and the possibility exists that he’ll be cleared to pitch in the AL Division Series. … Iwakuma had lost his previous three starts, giving up 15 and 18 hits in 12 innings. … Trout’s RBI was his 111th, tops in the AL and one behind Adrian Gonzalez of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
