Angels 4, Athletics 0: Chris Iannetta homered and drove in three in support of Jered Weaver as Los Angeles gained another game on visiting Oakland.

Weaver (15-7) walked three and scattered three hits while striking out three in seven innings as the Angels pushed their lead over the Athletics in the American League West to three games. Albert Pujols added a solo home run and Erick Aybar had two hits and scored for Los Angeles.

Jon Lester (13-9) was reached for three runs - two earned - and seven hits in six innings to drop to 0-2 in his last three starts. Josh Donaldson doubled for Oakland, which ensured that it would not be in first place at the conclusion of the four-game series.

Lester and Weaver did not give in until the fifth, when Aybar led off with a single for the Angels. Iannetta followed with a drive to deep center that Coco Crisp leaped and gloved before losing the ball over the wall as his body slammed into the fence, giving Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.

Lester got the first two outs of the sixth before an infield single, an error and a bunt single loaded the bases in front of Iannetta’s RBI walk. Pujols took Evan Scribner out to left in the seventh for his 24th home run and Joe Smith and Huston Street each worked a scoreless inning to cap the shutout.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crisp exited the game after hitting the wall on Iannetta’s home run with a neck strain and was replaced by Craig Gentry. … Aybar’s fifth-inning single extended his hitting streak to 14 games. … Los Angeles, which is still scrambling to replace RHP Garrett Richards (knee), has yet to announce a starter for Saturday’s game.
