Angels 9, Athletics 4: Josh Hamilton homered and drove in three runs and Mike Trout blasted a solo homer as visiting Los Angeles salvaged the finale of a three-game series against Oakland.

Jered Weaver (14-7) allowed three runs while striking out eight over 6 2/3 innings for the Angels, who led 8-0 after four innings and moved one game ahead of Oakland in the American League West. Kole Calhoun went 3-for-5 with a run scored while Erick Aybar had two hits and two RBIs to help the Angels win for the first time in six games at Oakland this season.

Hamilton pushed the Angels’ lead to 5-0 in the third inning with a two-run blast off Scott Kazmir (14-6), who matched his season highs in runs (seven) and hits (10) over three frames. Hamilton, Trout and Albert Pujols each collected two hits and scored twice for Los Angeles, which host the Athletics in a four-game series next weekend.

Jesse Chavez replaced Kazmir after Calhoun and Trout opened the fourth with back-to-back singles and promptly allowed Pujols’ RBI single. Hamilton followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Trout and Howie Kendrick capped the three-run inning with an RBI single up the middle.

Trout crushed a lead-off homer in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-0 before Weaver departed with two outs in the seventh following Alberto Callaspo’s two-run shot and Andy Parrino’s second career home run. Callaspo went 3-for-4 and Parrino had two hits for Oakland, which lost for the ninth time in its last 13 games.
