Angels 5, Mets 4 (11): Hank Conger was hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to push across the winning run as Los Angeles edged visiting New York in the opener of a three-game series.

Raul Ibanez singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout before trotting home with the deciding run to make a winner out of Michael Kohn (1-0), who pitched one scoreless inning. J.B. Shuck belted a two-run homer and Mike Trout hit a solo blast while Howie Kendrick had two hits and scored twice for the Angels.

Josh Satin knocked in a pair of runs, Travis d’Arnaud hit his first homer of the season and Daniel Murphy recorded two singles for the Mets. Jeurys Familia (0-2) pitched two scoreless innings before hitting Conger with a 2-2 pitch on the right shoulder after two intentional walks.

Trout drove a 1-1 pitch from starter Dillon Gee over the left-center field wall in the bottom the first and Chris Iannetta’s RBI single gave the Angels a 2-1 lead in the second. The Mets responded with d’Arnaud’s solo blast to center on the first pitch of the third and Satin doubled to center to plate two more in the fourth for a 4-2 edge.

Kendrick walked with one out in the sixth before Shuck, who was recalled to replace injured Josh Hamilton, belted a 1-0 pitch into the right-field seats to tie the game at 4. The Angels loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning before reliever Kyle Farnsworth got Albert Pujols to ground out and end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hamilton underwent surgery on his left thumb Friday and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks. … Mets OF Juan Lagares went 1-of-4 and has at least a hit in nine of his 10 games this season. … Gee allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings for the Mets and Los Angeles starter Tyler Skaggs yielded four runs and nine hits over seven frames.
