Phillies 2, Marlins 1: Kyle Kendrick allowed one run over seven strong innings and went 3-for-3 with an RBI at the plate as visiting Philadelphia edged Miami to even the series at a game apiece.

Marlon Byrd registered a pair of hits and knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth while Maikel Franco added two singles and scored a run for the Phillies. Kendrick (10-13) gave up six hits, walked one and struck out two to win for 14th time in 17 lifetime decisions against the Marlins.

Kike Hernandez recorded a triple, a double and an RBI while Garrett Jones had a pair of doubles for Miami. Chris Hatcher (0-3) yielded one run on two hits and a walk while retiring only one batter in the seventh to take the loss for the Marlins, who have dropped five of their last six contests.

Franco singled to lead off the eighth, moved up on a groundout and sprinted home on Byrd’s single to right to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead. Ken Giles set down Miami in order in the eighth and Jonathan Papelbon notched his 38th save in the ninth in his first appearance since returning from a seven-game suspension.

Darin Ruf walked to lead off the seventh and came all the way around when Kendrick laced a double into the left-center field gap to snap the scoreless tie. The Marlins responded in their half of the inning as Jones doubled and scored when Hernandez lined a two-base hit into the right-center field alley.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami starter LHP Brad Hand allowed one run on six hits over seven innings. … Philadelphia clinched its fifth consecutive season series victory over the Marlins, winning for the 10th time in 18 games with one remaining. … Miami LF Christian Yelich has hit safely in 20 of his last 21 games at home and has 30 doubles, one behind Jones and injured RF Giancarlo Stanton for the team lead.
