Pirates 7, Marlins 3:
Ike Davis and Gaby Sanchez each drove in a pair of runs as Pittsburgh evened the series with visiting Miami at a game apiece.

Josh Harrison had three hits and joined Gregory Polanco and Russell Martin with two runs scored for the Pirates, who pulled within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central and remained 1 1/2 back of the San Francisco Giants for the second wild card. Jeff Locke (3-3) allowed three runs and six hits in seven innings while striking out seven to earn the win.

Tom Koehler (7-9) started for the Marlins and allowed four runs - all in the first inning - and five hits while walking four. Christian Yelich hit a two-run homer and Jeff Baker drove in a run as Miami fell for the fifth time in seven games.

The Marlins grabbed a quick lead when Baker beat out an RBI infield single in the first, but Pittsburgh came right back in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with none out on a double and two walks. Davis followed and ripped a ground-rule double to left-center to plate two before Travis Snider’s groundout added a run and Jordy Mercer capped the rally with an RBI single to right.

Yelich sent his home run to the top of the bleachers in right field in the second to draw Miami within 4-3 before Locke settled in. The Pirates gained some separation with a three-run rally in the seventh as Martin sent an RBI single to center and came home when Sanchez delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double to the wall in right.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marlins RHP Jarred Cosart (oblique) was scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday and will be replaced by LHP Brian Flynn. … Pittsburgh 2B Neil Walker (back tightness) sat for the third time in four games while CF Andrew McCutchen (broken rib) remained out but has not been placed on the DL. … Harrison has hit safely in 10 straight games and has six multi-hit games in that span.
