Marlins 6, Pirates 3: Marcell Ozuna plated his second run of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning when visiting Miami scored five times to rally past Pittsburgh in the opener of a three-game series.

Adeiny Hechavarria went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Giancarlo Stanton and former Pirate Garrett Jones each collected two hits as the Marlins snapped a six-game losing streak at Pittsburgh. Christian Yelich capped the five-run outburst with an RBI double and A.J. Ramos (5-0) retired two batters in the seventh for the victory.

Jordy Mercer and Chris Stewart each recorded two hits and an RBI for the Pirates, who were without reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen due to a rib injury. Starter Charlie Morton allowed one run over seven innings before Jared Hughes (6-3) and three other relievers gave up five in the eighth.

The Marlins loaded the bases in the eighth on a walk, an error and Jeff Baker’s pinch-hit single with one out before Ozuna and Jarrod Saltalamacchia worked consecutive walks off Justin Wilson. Hechavarria followed with an RBI single, Reed Johnson’s fielder’s choice brought home another run and Yelich’s ground-rule double made it 6-2.

Starling Marte singled with two outs in the third and came all the way around to open the scoring when Mercer drilled a double into the right field corner. Ozuna doubled in a run to tie it in the fourth, but the Pirates took a 2-1 lead in the seventh on rookie Gregory Polanco’s RBI single with one out.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pittsburgh general manager Neal Huntington told reporters the team would “evaluate (McCutchen’s) progress” while he remains on the active roster before making a decision on his future. … Miami LHP Brad Hand yielded two runs on six hits and struck out four over 6 1/3 innings before former Pirate RHP Bryan Morris struck out two in a perfect eighth. … Pittsburgh placed 3B Pedro Alvarez on the bereavement list, which made room on the roster for the return of Marte from the seven-day concussion list.
