Cardinals 3, Marlins 2: Lance Lynn scattered five hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Yadier Molina and Oscar Taveras ripped back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth as host St. Louis recorded its third consecutive victory.

Matt Carpenter extended his hitting streak to nine games with a double to lead off the three-run sixth inning and scored on a wild pitch for the Cardinals, who moved within four games of slumping first-place Milwaukee in the National League Central. Molina finished with two hits and a run scored.

Former St. Louis farmhand Donovan Solano collected three hits and Christian Yelich had an RBI single in the ninth inning for the Marlins, who fell for the sixth time in eight games. Casey McGehee singled in the first inning to increase his hitting streak to 11 games while reaching base for the 28th consecutive contest.

Lynn (9-6) rebounded with six strikeouts after getting blitzed for seven runs in two innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Closer Trevor Rosenthal yielded Yelich's RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to Giancarlo Stanton in the ninth before inducing McGehee to ground into a game-ending double play for his 26th save.

After coming within an inch of a homer in the sixth inning, Carpenter advanced to third on Matt Holliday's single to put runners on the corners. Nathan Eovaldi (5-4) uncorked a wild pitch to allow Carpenter to open the scoring before Molina and Taveras belted doubles to right field to give St. Louis a 3-0 advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami CF Marcell Ozuna singled to lead off the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. ... Eovaldi suffered the hard-luck loss after permitting three runs on six hits in as many innings. ... Marlins INF Derek Dietrich was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right wrist strain, retroactive to Wednesday. The team recalled OF Jake Marisnick from Triple-A New Orleans.
