Marlins 5, Phillies 4 (11): Ed Lucas delivered a game-ending RBI single in the 11th inning to lift host Miami in the opener of a three-game series.

Marlon Byrd and Cody Asche hit back-to-back homers in the eighth for Philadelphia, denying Marlins starter Henderson Alvarez a win after he allowed two runs and seven hits over seven innings. Miami's bullpen was outstanding the rest of the way, with Bryan Morris (6-0) pitching two perfect frames for the win.

Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Christian Yelich also recorded two hits and scored once as the Marlins snapped their four-game skid. Byrd, Asche and Domonic Brown each had two hits and an RBI for the Phillies, who have dropped five straight.

Chase Utley snapped Philadelphia's 0-for-20 drought with runners in scoring position with an RBI single in the first, and Brown added a run-scoring base hit in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. The Marlins tied it in the bottom half on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's two-run single and moved ahead with a pair of runs in the fifth, when Stanton delivered an RBI single and later scored on A.J. Burnett's wild pitch.

The Phillies came back in the eighth against Kevin Gregg as Byrd rocketed his 16th homer of the season off the home run sculpture in left-center and Asche sent a deep drive down the right-field line two pitches later. Pinch hitter Jeff Baker led off the 11th with a single and took second on Yelich's sacrifice before scoring on Lucas' looping base hit down the right-field line off Justin De Fratus (2-1).

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marlins 3B Casey McGehee went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eight games and has reached base in a career-high 25 consecutive contests. … Phillies CF Ben Revere went 1-for-5, extending his hitting streak to six games. … Byrd's 10 home runs against the Marlins are tied for his most against any team (Atlanta).
