Padres 4, Dodgers 1: Eric Stults had a run-scoring single to help his own cause as visiting San Diego defeated Los Angeles.

Rymer Liriano had two hits and scored twice and Alexi Amarista contributed two hits and one RBI as the Padres improved to 2-4 on a 10-game road trip. Matt Kemp drove in the lone run for the Dodgers, who saw their National League West lead slip to three games over San Francisco.

Stults (6-13) allowed one run and four hits in five innings to win his third straight decision. Blaine Boyer followed with two hitless innings, Dale Thayer pitched out of an eighth-inning jam and Kevin Quackenbush worked around a single in the ninth to notch his first career save.

Amarista drilled a run-scoring single to center during a three-run second inning against Dodgers starter Roberto Hernandez (7-9). Stults followed with a single to left to score Jake Goebbert and Liriano came around to score when Los Angeles left fielder Scott Van Slyke twice bobbled the ball.

Kemp’s sacrifice fly in the third got Los Angeles on the board and San Diego answered in the fourth when Yangervis Solarte’s fly to center drove in Liriano. The Dodgers had runners on first and third in the eighth before Thayer retired Kemp on a fly to center to end the inning.
