Astros 5, Yankees 2: Robbie Grossman recorded two hits and two RBIs as Houston posted its first-ever series win at New York.

Scott Feldman (7-9) struck out seven and allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings while former Yankee Jose Veras earned his first save of the season as the Astros improved to 4-2 on their 10-game road trip. Jake Marisnick collected two hits and an RBI while Dexter Fowler added a run-scoring double for Houston.

Stephen Drew homered and Jacoby Ellsbury notched two hits and an RBI for New York, which has lost seven of nine to drop five games behind Detroit for the second wild card in the American League. David Huff (3-1) took the loss in relief of Michael Pineda, who permitted two runs and four hits in six-plus innings.

The Yankees led 2-1 when Pineda was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk in the seventh and the Astros responded by rattling off five straight singles, with Marisnick and Jose Altuve sandwiching RBI base hits around Grossman's two-run single off Esmil Rogers for a 5-2 lead. New York had runners on second and third for the third time in the contest in the seventh, but Kevin Chapman struck out Ellsbury to end the inning.

Fowler's two-out double to right in the fourth staked Houston to a 1-0 advantage, but Drew hit his first homer since joining New York in the bottom of the inning to knot it. The Yankees forged ahead in the sixth, when Ellsbury dropped a bunt toward third to plate Ichiro Suzuki on a squeeze play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees DH Carlos Beltran was not in the lineup Wednesday due to recurring pain in his troubled right elbow, which will require surgery to remove a bone spur after the season. ... Fowler, who stretched his hitting streak to five games, played in his 750th contest and made his 3,000th plate appearance. ... New York received some positive news on the injury front as RHP Masahiro Tanaka, sidelined since July 8 with a partial ligament tear in his right elbow, threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday and said the elbow is "fine."
