Astros 8, Athletics 1: Robbie Grossman and Jon Singleton each swatted two-run homers and host Houston used a six-run first inning to claim the rubber match of the three-game set.

Staked to the big early lead, Dallas Keuchel (10-7) tossed his fourth complete game of the season, permitting one run on four hits to lift the Astros to only their second win in eight games. Matt Dominguez and Carlos Corporan each had an RBI single and scored as Houston rebounded from coughing up a three-run ninth-inning lead on Tuesday.

Jason Hammel (8-9) was battered for eight runs over 4 1/3 innings to drop to 0-4 in four starts since joining Oakland in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. Josh Donaldson accounted for the lone run with a solo homer as the Athletics completed a 3-3 road trip through Texas.

The Astros pounced on Hammel with six hits in the first inning, getting run-scoring singles from Dominguez and Corporan before Grossman capped the uprising with a two-run shot to right field. Donaldson got Oakland on the board with a solo shot to lead off the second, but Houston KO'd Hammel in the fifth.

Jason Castro drew a leadoff walk and, one batter later, Singleton drilled an opposite-field shot for only his second hit in seven games - both homers. That ended the day for Hammel, who has been knocked around for 20 runs in 17 innings over his first four starts with the Athletics.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Astros LF Chris Carter was scratched due to a stomach bug and replaced by Grossman, who homered for the first time since July 9. ... Athletics CF Coco Crisp (neck) sat out for the fifth time in six games and has already been ruled out for Friday versus Kansas City, opening the door for CF Billy Burns, who was hitless in four at-bats in his first career start. ... RHP Josh Zeid will undergo season-ending foot surgery next week for Houston, which heads to Toronto for a four-game series beginning Thursday while Oakland opens a 10-game homestand versus the Royals.
