Angels 6, Astros 1: Kole Calhoun homered among his three hits and Garrett Richards struck out a career-high 11 batters over seven-plus innings as Los Angeles completed a four-game sweep of visiting Houston.

Albert Pujols began the scoring with a two-run single in the first off Collin McHugh (4-8), who allowed three runs (two earned) over four innings before exiting due to a right middle fingernail avulsion. Pujols had two homers and seven RBIs in the series for Los Angeles, which has won four straight and 13 of its last 16 games.

Houston saw its losing streak reach seven games while striking out 12 times and going 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Astros trailed 3-0 before Carlos Corporan delivered an RBI single in the seventh off Richards (10-2), who allowed one run on six hits with one walk over 7 1/3 innings.

Calhoun extended the Angels' lead to 4-1 in the seventh with a two-out solo homer off David Martinez, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the game. Calhoun scored twice from the leadoff spot and the Angels scored two runs off Chad Qualls in the eighth to secure their first 10-game home winning streak since April 7-May 5, 1996.

The middle of the Houston lineup – Jason Castro, George Springer and Jon Singleton – combined to go 1-for-12 with nine strikeouts. The Astros were baffled by Richards, who is an American League-best 6-0 over seven starts since the beginning of June with a 1.45 ERA.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Angels 3B David Freese was held out of the starting lineup due to a bruised left shin but was available to pinch hit. … The Astros optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Oklahoma City after the rookie went hitless in his first 13 at-bats with 10 strikeouts. … Los Angeles optioned LHP Michael Roth to Triple-A Salt Lake and activated RHP Fernando Salas from the disabled list.
