Angels 11, Astros 5: David Freese, Albert Pujols and C.J. Cron all homered during an eight-run seventh inning as Los Angeles rallied to hand visiting Houston its sixth straight loss.

Kole Calhoun and Erick Aybar both went 3-for-5 and scored two runs, Pujols and Cron recorded three RBIs apiece and Freese and Howie Kendrick each drove in two runs for the Angels, who have won nine consecutive home games for the first time since April 22-May 18, 2004. Michael Roth (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief of Hector Santiago, who allowed five runs while striking out seven over five frames.

Pujols, who came within a triple of the cycle, gave the Angels an early lead with an RBI single in the first off Scott Feldman, who yielded two runs over six innings. The Astros answered with five in the third on Jason Castro’s run-scoring double and former Athletic Chris Carter’s grand slam.

Los Angeles erupted for eight runs on six hits while sending 14 batters to the plate in the seventh, when they launched three homers in an inning for the second time this season. Freese sparked the rally with the first pinch-hit homer of his career and Pujols put the Angels ahead 6-4 with a two-run blast off Anthony Bass (1-1).

Castro went 3-for-5 and Matt Dominguez contributed two hits for Houston, which fell a season-high 17 games under .500. The Astros have lost 11 of their last 14 contests while Jose Altuve is hitless in his last 11 at-bats after going 0-for-4 on Saturday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Angels acquired LHP Joe Thatcher and OF Tony Campana from Arizona for OF Zach Borenstein and RHP Joey Krehbiel. … Carter is 4-for-11 with two homers and five RBIs in the first three games of the series. … The Angels sent 14 batters to the plate in the seventh inning or later for the first time since Game 5 of the 2002 American League Championship Series against Minnesota.
