Nationals 7, Astros 0: Anthony Rendon went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs as visiting Washington defeated Houston for the 10th time in 11 meetings.

Rendon scored twice, as did Denard Span, and Danny Espinosa added a solo homer for the Nationals, who swept the brief two-game series. Jordan Zimmermann (2-1) allowed seven hits over 6 1/3 innings before Aaron Barrett, Ross Detwiler and Ryan Mattheus completed the nine-hit shutout.

The Nationals did the bulk of their damage against Brett Oberholtzer (0-5), who gave up six runs, 11 hits and a pair of walks in 4 2/3 innings. Zimmermann, meanwhile, logged his fourth straight quality start and lowered his ERA to 3.27, thanks in part to seven strikeouts against only one walk.

Span opened the third inning by circling the bases on a triple into right-center combined with an error charged to rookie right fielder George Springer, who failed at several attempts to pick up the ball cleanly. Another Houston error - this one by first baseman Jesus Guzman - helped plate another run in the fourth inning, and Rendon delivered a two-run double later in the frame before scoring on Jayson Werth's single to center that made it 5-0.

Espinosa ended Oberholtzer's night with his fifth-inning home run and Rendon's sixth-inning solo shot off reliever Paul Clemens capped the scoring on the night. Espinosa, Span and Kevin Frandsen contributed two hits apiece for Washington, while Guzman recorded two singles and a double for Houston.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Astros put two runners on with one out in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Zimmermann escaped each time. Houston again had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, but this time Nationals manager Matt Williams called upon Barrett, who struck out Jose Altuve and got L.J. Hoes on a groundout. ... Rendon is 13-for-23 against left-handed pitching this season. ... Washington begins a three-game weekend series in Philadelphia on Friday. Houston also has an off-day on Thursday before hosting Seattle for three games.
