Twins 4, Tigers 3: Aaron Hicks delivered an RBI infield single with two out as host Minnesota rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth after allowing three in the top half and evened the three-game series at one win apiece.

J.D. Martinez belted a three-run homer off Glen Perkins (4-3) with Detroit down to its final out in its half of the ninth to erase a 2-0 deficit. Former Twin Joe Nathan (4-4) was unable to hold the one-run lead as Kurt Suzuki delivered a tying double with one out and Hicks plated pinch-runner Chris Herrmann with a base hit to shortstop.

Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with a triple, a homer and two runs scored while Suzuki recorded two RBIs for the Twins, who won for just the sixth time in 23 contests. Perkins blew his seventh save opportunity and spoiled a brilliant effort by Ricky Nolasco, who scattered five hits and a walk over eight scoreless frames in an attempt to snap his five-game losing streak.

Martinez, Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez finished with two hits apiece for the Tigers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped as their lead over second-place Kansas City in the American League Central remained at 1 1/2 games. Nathan also suffered his seventh blown save, preventing Rick Porcello from halting his three-game skid.

Minnesota snapped the scoreless tie in the fourth as Vargas led off with his first career triple and came home on Suzuki's one-out single to left field. Vargas doubled the lead with one out in the sixth, depositing a 3-2 offering over the right-field wall for his eighth home run.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Minnesota SS Eduardo Escobar left the game in the fourth inning with a shoulder injury suffered on Hunter's one-out infield single. ... Porcello allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over eight innings. ... The Twins evened the season series at seven victories apiece.
