Tigers 4, Dodgers 1: Max Scherzer allowed four hits over seven strong innings as Detroit completed a sweep of visiting Los Angeles in the two-game interleague series.

Don Kelly recorded two singles and an RBI while Austin Jackson added a triple, a double and two runs scored for the Tigers. Scherzer (11-3) won for the fifth time in six decisions, giving up one run and two walks with seven strikeouts before Joba Chamberlain and Joe Nathan came on to close out the contest.

Miguel Rojas belted his first major-league homer in the fifth while Yasiel Puig had a triple and a double for the Dodgers, who were swept in a series for the first time this season. Zack Greinke (11-5) yielded three runs – two in the first inning – on seven hits and struck out eight over seven frames.

Jackson’s triple led off the first inning and Ian Kinsler followed with an RBI single to left before sprinting home on Kelly’s two-out base hit up the middle. Consecutive singles by J.D. Martinez, Kelly and Nick Castellanos brought home another run in the fourth to push the Tigers’ lead to 3-0.

The Dodgers put two on with one out in the third before Puig grounded into a 5-3 double play, and Scherzer stranded Puig after his leadoff double in the sixth. Jackson doubled to lead off the eighth and later scored on Torii Hunter’s sacrifice fly before Nathan notched his 18th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Two-time defending American League MVP Miguel Cabrera (rest) and 1B-DH Victor Martinez (sore back) did not play for the Tigers. … Los Angeles saw its seven-series unbeaten streak (6-0-1) on the road come to an end. … The Dodgers return home to start a four-game series against San Diego with LHP Clayton Kershaw on the mound, and Detroit visits Kansas City to begin a four-game set on Thursday.
