Reds 3, Pirates 2: Chris Heisey slugged a two-run homer in the fifth inning and snapped a tie with a solo blast in the ninth to help visiting Cincinnati salvage the finale of a three-game series.

Jonny Cueto (16-8) continued to dominate Pittsburgh with eight strong innings, allowing two runs and nine hits with six strikeouts. Ryan Ludwick had a hit and scored a run while Aroldis Chapman picked up his 29th save for the Reds, who improved to 20-33 in one-run games.

Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer hit solo homers for the Pirates, who saw a four-game winning streak snapped and fell two games behind National League Central co-leaders Milwaukee and St. Louis in the division and for the second wild-card. Francisco Liriano let up two runs in seven frames before Jared Hughes (6-5) served up the decisive homer to Heisey.

Harrison hit Cueto's first pitch of the game down the line in left for his 13th home run of the season and Mercer went deep in the second for a quick 2-0 lead. Liriano walked Ludwick on four pitches to begin the fifth and Heisey followed with a first-pitch blast to left to tie it.

Third baseman Kristopher Negron made a diving over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory to end the bottom of the eighth and strand two Pirates in scoring position. Heisey smacked a 1-1 offering from Hughes inside the foul pole in left for his fifth career multi-homer game and Chapman struck out two in a perfect ninth to ice it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Reds traded RHP Jonathan Broxton to Milwaukee for two players to be named later. ... Cincinnati CF Billy Hamilton recorded his 54th stolen base to tie the franchise record for a rookie, held since 1909 by Bob Bescher. ... Cueto is 17-4 with a 2.26 ERA in his career versus the Pirates and even better in Pittsburgh, where he is 10-2 with a 1.91 mark.
