Reds 7, Marlins 3: Todd Frazier matched his career high with four hits and knocked in a run as visiting Cincinnati defeated Miami to take three of four in the series.

Devin Mesoraco went 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Billy Hamilton added two hits, three runs and knocked in another as the Reds scored six times with two outs. Mike Leake (9-9) allowed one run on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts over six innings to help Cincinnati move within 4 1/2 games of first-place Milwaukee in the National League Central.

Jeff Mathis registered two hits and an RBI while Garrett Jones launched a two-run homer in the eighth for Miami, which has dropped four of its last five. Jacob Turner (4-7), who had won his previous two starts, yielded five runs and nine hits over four innings.

Zack Cozart’s two-out RBI single in the second inning opened the scoring before Jay Bruce (two hits) delivered a run-scoring single and Ryan Ludwick doubled in another in the third for the Reds. Miami loaded the bases in the bottom of the third with none out, but came up empty as Leake induced two fielder’s choices - one on which Frazier was spiked in the foot - and a strikeout.

The Reds increased their cushion to 5-0 in the fourth as Hamilton and Frazier came through with two-out RBI singles against Turner. After Mathis brought home a run in the bottom of the fourth for the Marlins, Mesoraco delivered two more on a single up the middle with two outs in the sixth for a 7-1 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ludwick finished the series with five RBIs on only three hits. … Miami SS Adeiny Hechavarria had a double and a triple, giving him 30 multi-hit games on the season. … The teams will face each other again Aug. 8-10 for three games in Cincinnati.
