Reds 5, Marlins 2: Ryan Ludwick knocked in a pair of runs for the second straight night and Mat Latos pitched seven strong innings as visiting Cincinnati edged Miami for its third win in four games.

Todd Frazier collected two hits and an RBI while Billy Hamilton added two singles for the Reds, who beat the Marlins for the seventh consecutive time. Latos (3-3) allowed one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five before Aroldis Chapman worked around a one-out single in the ninth for his 25th save.

Giancarlo Stanton homered for the third consecutive game while Jordany Valdespin recorded two hits and an RBI for Miami, which lost its third straight. Jarred Cosart (9-8), acquired from Houston in a trade Thursday, yielded four runs on four hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings in his Marlins debut.

Cosart retired the first nine batters he faced before consecutive singles by Hamilton, Jay Bruce and Frazier gave the Reds a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Valdespin’s two-out RBI single tied it in the fifth and the Marlins appeared to have moved in front later in the inning, but Garrett Jones was ruled out at first base after a Cincinnati challenge.

Two walks and a single from Frazier loaded the bases in the sixth before Ludwick blooped a two-run double to left off reliever Chris Hatcher and Skip Schumaker followed with a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead. Stanton lined his 26th homer to left off Jonathan Broxton in the eighth, tying Mike Lowell for third on Miami’s all-time list with 143.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Marlins moved RHP Jacob Turner back to start Sunday’s series finale after Cosart’s arrival while placing All-Star RHP Henderson Alvarez (right shoulder inflammation) – originally scheduled to pitch Sunday -- on the 15-day disabled list and recalling LHP Dan Jennings. … Cincinnati OF Chris Heisey doubled as a pinch hitter in the ninth and scored an insurance run on a passed ball. … Chapman extended his streak of appearances with at least one strikeout to 47 by fanning C Jarrod Saltalamacchia to lead off the ninth.
