Yankees 4, Reds 3: Jacoby Ellsbury belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth and David Phelps tossed 6 1/3 solid innings as New York won the opener of its 10-game homestand.

Brian McCann had an RBI double and Derek Jeter had two hits and two runs scored for the Yankees, who overcame three errors to move one game above .500. Carlos Beltran returned from the seven-day concussion disabled list with a run-scoring single among his two hits.

Brayan Pena recorded his first career multi-homer game by going deep to lead off both the third and seventh innings for the Reds, who fell for the fourth time in 12 contests. Zack Cozart scored on an error and joined Pena and Chris Heisey with two hits.

After a pair of infield errors allowed Cincinnati to forge a 2-2 tie in the fourth, New York regained the advantage in the following inning. Jeter led off with a single to right before Ellsbury deposited a 1-1 fastball from Mike Leake (7-8) into the short porch in right field for his seventh homer - and third in nine contests.

Pena trimmed the deficit in the seventh with his second homer of the night, but Phelps (4-4) collected himself to improve to 3-0 in his last seven outings. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out seven before rookie Dellin Betances fanned three to bridge the gap to David Robertson, who retired the side in the ninth for his 24th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York LHP CC Sabathia will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee next week, the team announced. ... Beltran disputed that he had a concussion after inadvertently batting a ball in his face, causing two fractures in his nose. "I never had one," Beltran told Newsday. "I let (the team) know I was feeling good but they were concerned and wanted to make sure I didn't have one." ... Leake permitted four runs on eight hits in seven innings to take the loss.
