Padres 3, Reds 0:
Tyson Ross threw his first career shutout and Rene Rivera drove in all three runs as host San Diego finished off a three-game sweep of Cincinnati to run its winning streak to four.

Ross (7-8) rebounded from a winless June with a three-hit, eight-strikeout masterpiece, tossing his first career complete game in his second dominant performance against the Reds this season. Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley each singled and scored in a three-run first as San Diego matched its longest winning streak of the year and posted its first three-game sweep since Sept. 6-8 versus Colorado.

Johnny Cueto (8-6), who entered leading the majors in ERA at 1.88, held the Padres off the board after the first and wound up with eight strikeouts over seven innings while allowing more than two earned runs for the third time in 18 starts. Todd Frazier had a pair of hits for Cincinnati, which was swept following a five-game winning streak.

Less than 24 hours after amassing a season-high 16 hits, the league's worst hitting team continued the momentum in its first at-bat, loading the bases on singles by Denorfia and Headley and a walk to Tommy Medica. Rivera, who has 14 of his 20 RBIs in games started by Ross, followed with a bloop to center that popped out of the glove of diving center fielder Billy Hamilton as all three runners scored.

Meanwhile, Ross set down the first 11 batters before a two-out single by Frazier in the fourth and did not allow another runner until Frazier's one-out single in the seventh. The only other runner to reach against Ross was Brayan Pena on an eighth-inning double.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Padres signed LF Seth Smith to a two-year contract extension worth $13 million, a deal that includes a club option for 2017. ... Hamilton was named the NL Rookie of the Month for June after batting .327 with three homers, 18 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. ... SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list by San Diego, which has a day off before hosting San Francisco on Friday. The Reds, who return home to face NL Central-leading Milwaukee on Friday, traded RHP Jair Jurrgens to Colorado in exchange for INF Harold Riggins.
