Padres 1, Reds 0: Jesse Hahn struck out a career-high nine and Tommy Medica scored as host San Diego stopped Cincinnati’s five-game winning streak.

Hahn (4-1) collected his fourth straight win in as many starts, holding a Cincinnati offense that averaged 5.3 runs over its last nine games to three singles and two walks over five innings. Everth Cabrera’s drove in the game’s only run on a sacrifice fly for San Diego, which has scored a total of five runs over its last five contests.

Mat Latos (1-1) took the hard-luck loss despite yielding a run on one hit and a walk – both to Medica – over seven frames. Devin Mesoraco doubled off reliever Dale Thayer in the seventh inning to account for the only extra-base hit by either team as the Reds fell to 6-2 on their 10-game road trip.

San Diego manufactured its only tally in the fifth as Medica drew a walk to begin the inning and stole second moments later before advancing to third on a flyout by Cameron Maybin and scoring on Cabrera’s flyball to left-center. Blaine Boyer, Thayer and Joaquin Benoit each tossed a scoreless inning of relief before Huston Street induced Jay Bruce to ground into a game-ending 6-3 double play to post his 22nd save.

Hahn – making only his fifth career start – got an inning-ending double play to get out of the first and left the bases loaded in the second before recording all of his strikeouts against the final 11 batters he faced. Latos cruised through his first four innings, allowing only a second-inning single to Medica.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Latos has allowed one run or less in three of his four starts since making his season debut on June 14 after recovering from offseason elbow and knee surgeries. … The Padres have scored more than two runs only twice in their last nine games. … San Diego LF Carlos Quentin (shoulder) returned from a three-game absence and went 0-for-3, but made a diving grab of a sinking liner by Zack Cozart to keep Mesoraco from scoring and end the seventh.
