Indians 2, Rangers 0: Lonnie Chisenhall and Nick Swisher ripped back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth inning and five pitchers combined on a five-hitter as host Cleveland continued its dominance of Texas.

All-Star Michael Brantley recorded a pair of singles for the Indians, who have won 10 of their last 11 against the Rangers and remained 6 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central. Scott Atchison (4-0) picked up the victory after working 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter T.J. House, who scattered three hits and struck out seven over five-plus frames.

Miles Mikolas (1-4) permitted two runs on five hits in seven innings to take the hard-luck loss for the Rangers, who have dropped five straight on the road. Elvis Andrus, J.P. Arencibia and Daniel Robertson each had a single and reached base twice.

Jason Kipnis singled against Mikolas to lead off the sixth before advancing to third on Mike Aviles' sacrifice and Brantley's groundout. Chisenhall deposited a first-pitch fastball into center field to score Kipnis before Swisher sent an 0-2 fastball into right to plate Carlos Santana.

Atchison departed with two outs in the seventh before Nick Hagadone struck out Shin-Soo Choo to end the inning. Bryan Shaw retired the side in order in the eighth and Cody Allen allowed the first two batters to reach in the ninth before notching his 14th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Slugger Jim Thome signed an honorary one-day contract with Cleveland prior to the game and officially retired as a member of the organization. Veteran Jason Giambi, who had worn Thome's No. 25, promised not to use the jersey number again when he returns from the disabled list. ... Brantley has recorded multi-hit performances in five of his last seven contests. ... The Indians have outscored the Rangers 32-10 en route to winning the last five meetings at home dating to last season.
