Indians 5, Royals 3: Jason Kipnis doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh as host Cleveland rallied to win for the third time in four games.

Michael Bourn finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Kipnis added two hits and an RBI, and Michael Brantley scored the tying run on two Kansas City errors on the same play in the sixth. Bryan Shaw (1-0) earned the victory with two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief and John Axford pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.

Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas hit back-to-back homers in the second for Kansas City, which dropped to 1-3 since a five-game winning streak. Kelvin Herrera (0-1) gave up Kipnis’ double to the right-center field wall with two outs in the seventh, scoring Nick Swisher to snap a 3-all tie.

Moustakas put the Royals ahead in the sixth, his single to right scoring Eric Hosmer - who reached on Kipnis’ error - to make it 3-2. Brantley used his legs and shaky Kansas City defense to even the score in the home half of the frame, stealing second and advancing to third when Perez’s throw sailed into the outfield before racing home when center fielder Jarrod Dyson overran the ball to tie the contest at 3.

Kansas City jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second, Perez belting the first pitch from Cleveland starter Justin Masterson over the wall in center for his first homer of the season and Moustakas going deep to right four pitches later. The Indians tied the game in the bottom of the second on Bourn’s triple to the wall in right-center, scoring Asdrubal Cabrera and Mike Aviles.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Masterson gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, while Kansas City starter Jason Vargas surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings. … Hosmer finished with two hits and is 6-for-14 in the first three games of the series. … Axford is tied with Milwaukee’s Francisco Rodriguez for the major-league saves lead.
