Reds 7, Cubs 5: Skip Schumaker collected two hits and two RBIs while pinch-hitter Chris Heisey homered as host Cincinnati posted its third win in four games.

Devin Mesoraco went 2-for-2 with an RBI while Billy Hamilton added two hits and registered his 50th stolen base for the Reds, who remained 6 1/2 games back of San Francisco for the second National League wild-card spot. Brandon Phillips and Zack Cozart each notched an RBI and Mat Latos (5-3) allowed four runs and seven hits with a season-high 10 strikeouts in seven innings before Aroldis Chapman worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth for his 28th save.

Jorge Soler homered in his first major-league at-bat and added an RBI single while Luis Valbuena also went deep for the Cubs, who had their four-game winning streak halted. Javier Baez drove in a pair of runs, but Jacob Turner (4-8) was tagged for six runs - three earned - and seven hits over 3 2/3 frames in his first start since being acquired from Miami.

Chicago jumped in front in the second as Valbuena and Soler began the inning with back-to-back homers. Turner was unable to hold the lead, however, as Schumaker delivered an RBI double and Cozart followed with a run-scoring groundout in the bottom half.

The game remained even until the fourth when Schumaker followed Kristopher Negron's leadoff double with an RBI single and scored on an error three batters later to make it 4-2. Phillips and Mesoraco added back-to-back run-scoring singles later in the frame, but Baez highlighted a three-run eighth with a two-run double as the Cubs got within one before Heisey belted a leadoff homer in the bottom of the frame to make it 7-5.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hamilton became the ninth player in Reds history to record 50 stolen bases in a season and first since Deion Sanders in 1997. He also moved within four steals of the franchise rookie record set in 1909 by Bob Bescher. ...
