Cubs 7, Nationals 2: Justin Ruggiano went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs while Jason Hammel continued his mastery of Washington with six-plus strong innings as visiting Chicago earned its fourth straight victory.

Starlin Castro recorded two RBIs with a pair of hits and Chris Coghlan added two hits and scored three times for the Cubs, who have won five consecutive road games. Hammel (8-5) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out seven to win for the eighth time in eight career decisions against Nationals.

Jayson Werth hit a home run for a second straight game and doubled for the Nationals, who saw their five-game win streak come to an end. Washington’s Tanner Roark (7-6) yielded four runs on nine hits while striking out five in seven innings to lose his second straight start – both against the Cubs.

Coghlan singled and later scored on a double-play grounder in the first inning, but Werth’s solo blast into the left-field seats tied it in the bottom of the frame. Hammel’s infield single knocked in the lead run in the second, Ruggiano homered into the right-field bullpen in the third and Anthony Rizzo’s RBI groundout made it 4-1 in the fifth.

Anthony Rendon extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double to lead off the seventh and scored on Wilson Ramos’ single for the Nationals. The Cubs answered in the ninth, as Ruggiano delivered an RBI single with one out and Castro lined a two-run base hit up the middle with two down.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Castro also doubled in the eighth inning and extended his road hitting streak to 11 games. … Washington All-Star LF Bryce Harper moved up from sixth to the No. 2 spot in the batting order and went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. … It was the first time two starting pitchers with the same record and ERA met this late in the season (at least 15 starts) since Baltimore’s Mike Cuellar and Jim Kaat of the Chicago White Sox were both 13-9 with a 3.54 ERA in an encounter in August of 1974. Roark and Hammel each came in at 7-5 with a 2.98 ERA.
