Phillies 2, Cubs 0: Chase Utley came up a triple shy of the cycle and Cliff Lee worked seven strong innings as visiting Philadelphia knocked off Chicago for the second straight day.

Utley went 3-for-3 and scored on Domonic Brown’s RBI single in the fourth for the Phillies. Lee (2-0), who was pounded for eight runs in his Opening Day start, scattered 10 hits over seven innings while striking out six.

Jeff Samardzija (0-1) struck out eight while allowing two runs on six hits and three walks in seven frames for the Cubs. Starlin Castro recorded three hits and Emilio Bonifacio and Anthony Rizzo added two apiece, but Chicago went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Utley got a 1-1 fastball from Samardzija in the first inning and belted it into the stands in right for a quick 1-0 lead. Utley walked leading off the fourth and moved up on Ryan Howard’s single before coming across when Brown sent a single into left-center.

The Cubs put runners in scoring position in the first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh but could not get the big hit off Lee. Jake Diekman worked a scoreless eighth and Jonathan Papelbon retired the side in the ninth for his first save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Utley’s double in the eighth inning was the 300th of his career. … Samardzija has surrendered a total of two runs through 14 innings in his first two starts but has received zero runs of support. … Bonifacio is 13-for-24 and has reached base safely in all five games.
