Mariners 4, White Sox 1: Mike Zunino blasted a three-run homer and Hisashi Iwakuma tossed seven strong innings as host Seattle extended its winning streak to four games.

Iwakuma (10-6) allowed one run on five hits with no walks and Fernando Rodney worked a perfect ninth for his 32nd save. Rookie Chris Taylor went 3-for-4 while Austin Jackson and Logan Morrison added two hits apiece for Seattle, which remained a half-game behind Kansas City for the American League's second wild card.

Dayan Viciedo began the scoring in the fourth with a two-out solo homer for Chicago, which has lost four straight and six of its last seven to drop 7 1/2 games behind the Royals in the wild card race. The Mariners answered with four runs in the fifth off Jose Quintana (6-8), who yielded four runs (two earned) over 5 2/3 innings.

After Chris Denorfia walked to begin the fifth and Morrison reached base on third baseman Conor Gillaspie’s error, both scored on Zunino’s 18th homer to right field. The Mariners continued the big inning by loading the bases before Taylor scored on Kendrys Morales’ sacrifice fly.

Iwakuma retired 10 of his final 11 batters following Viciedo’s blast and improved to 6-1 with a 0.92 ERA in 10 starts against AL Central opponents in his career. Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a seventh-inning single for Seattle, which improved to 56-17 when scoring three or more runs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago CF Adam Eaton exited after his first at-bat in the first inning due to soreness in his rib cage. … Seattle SS Willie Bloomquist will miss the rest of the season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee Friday. … Adrian Nieto had two hits for the White Sox, who have been outscored 55-13 over their last six games.
