White Sox 5, Rangers 3 (7): Tyler Flowers went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle as host Chicago won the rain-shortened opener of a three-game series.

Hector Noesi (6-8), who made three relief appearances for Texas earlier this season, permitted three runs - one earned - on four hits and struck out six in seven innings as the White Sox moved within five games of the second wild card. Jose Abreu added two hits and drove in a pair to boost his major league-leading RBI total to 86.

Rougned Odor swatted a two-run homer for the Rangers, who squandered a three-run lead en route to their seventh consecutive road defeat. Nick Martinez (1-8) gave up five runs on eight hits in five-plus innings to became the eighth pitcher in team history to go 10 straight starts in one season without a victory.

Adrian Beltre's RBI single opened the scoring in the first before Noesi committed a costly two-out error in the second and Odor followed with a line shot down the right-field line to make it 3-0. The White Sox broke through in the third, loading the bases on a triple by Flowers and a pair of walks before Abreu delivered a two-run single to center.

Flowers led off the bottom of the fifth with a homer and Chicago chased Martinez in the sixth on a leadoff single by Dayan Viciedo and a double by Conor Gillaspie. Reliever Nate Adcock came on to strike out a pair but Flowers broke the deadlock with a two-run single to center for a 5-3 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Flowers, who has eight multiple-hit games in his last 15, became the fourth Chicago catcher in 40 years with a triple and home run in the same contest. ... Rangers SS Elvis Andrus extended his hitting streak to 11 games while White Sox CF Adam Eaton also ran his hitting streak to 11 games while reaching safely in 21 straight contests. ... OF Mike Carp, acquired off waivers from Boston on Sunday, became the 55th player used by the Rangers this season, matching a club record.
