Solano belted a solo homer in the first inning and added an RBI single in the fifth for the Marlins, who got two hits each from Giancarlo Stanton and Casey McGehee, and two runs scored from Christian Yelich. Cosart (12-8) improved to 3-1 in five starts with Miami since being acquired in a trade with Houston, giving up seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven-plus innings.

Aaron Harang (10-9) lost for the third time in four starts, surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Jason Heyward went 3-for-4, but the Braves committed three errors and hit into three double plays to drop 1 1/2 games behind St. Louis for the final National League wild-card spot and seven games behind Washington in the NL East.

Solano’s third homer of the season put Miami ahead 1-0 in the first, and Yelich walked with two outs and nobody on in the third before scoring on Stanton’s single to center. Yelich delivered a ground-rule double with two outs and the bases empty in the fifth, and Solano drove him home with a single to make it 3-0.

Miami added its fourth run in the sixth when Jarrod Saltalamacchia walked, reached third on Adeiny Hechavarria’s double and came home on Evan Gattis’ passed ball. Atlanta threatened in the eighth, loading the bases on three singles before Andrelton Simmons struck out and Freddie Freeman grounded out.
