Braves 3, Mets 2: Jason Heyward homered and Julio Teheran won his third consecutive start as visiting Atlanta held on to snap a three-game losing streak.

Heyward opened the game by belting a 1-1 pitch from Zack Wheeler (9-9) over the left-field fence, and the Braves scored twice in the third to snap a 1-1 tie and remain within 1 1/2 games of San Francisco for the final National League wild-card spot. Teheran (13-9) surrendered one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out four.

Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer and Juan Lagares added two hits and an RBI for the Mets, who put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth but could not score. Wheeler struck out seven and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in seven innings, suffering his first loss in his past 11 starts as New York lost for the sixth time in nine games.

Flores pulled New York even with two outs in the second, hitting a 3-1 Teheran offering over the fence in left-center. After Phil Gosselin reached on a one-out bunt single in the third and Freddie Freeman doubled, Justin Upton scored Gosselin on a groundout and Ruben Tejada’s error on Evan Gattis’ grounder plated Freeman to make it 3-1 Atlanta.

Teheran retired 13 of the next 14 hitters he faced after Flores’ homer, and David Carpenter came on to strand two runners in the seventh. Jordan Walden gave up Lagares’ RBI single in the eighth, but Andrelton Simmons’ throw from short left field nipped Travis d’Arnaud at first to end the inning with the tying run on third and Gosselin threw out Eric Campbell at home in the ninth as Craig Kimbrel worked around a hit and a walk for his 39th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mets played without second baseman Daniel Murphy (right calf soreness) and third baseman David Wright (sore neck) for the second consecutive game. … Lagares extended his hitting streak to five games and is batting 9-for-18 during that stretch. … Atlanta CF B.J. Upton went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Upton is hitless in his past 14 at-bats and his 157 strikeouts are the most in the NL.
