Reds 5, Braves 3: Alfredo Simon snapped a seven-start winless streak and Zack Cozart finished with three hits and two RBIs as host Cincinnati held on to salvage a split of the four-game series.

Simon (13-8), who had not won since July 9, held the Braves to one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in seven innings, and Jonathan Broxton survived a shaky ninth to record the final out for his seventh save. Cozart finished 3-for-4 with a triple, Todd Frazier went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored and Jay Bruce added two hits and scored twice for the Reds, who have won two in a row following a seven-game losing streak.

Atlanta starter Aaron Harang (10-8) gave up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings, losing for the second time in three starts. Evan Gattis homered and scored twice for the Braves, who tallied two runs in the ninth before falling eight games behind Washington in the National League East and one behind San Francisco in the race for the second NL wild card.

Harang surrendered consecutive singles from Frazier and Brandon Phillips to lead off the fourth, and after an out, he failed to cover first on Bruce’s grounder behind the first-base bag to load the bases. Jason Heyward made a diving catch of Ryan Ludwick’s liner to right that scored Frazier with the game’s first run, and back-to-back singles from Brayan Pena and Cozart plated runs to put the Reds ahead 3-0.

Cozart’s fielder’s choice scored Bruce in the sixth to make it 4-0, and after Atlanta got on the board in the seventh on back-to-back doubles from Gattis and Tommy La Stella, Frazier belted his 22nd homer in the bottom of the seventh. Gattis hit his 20th homer leading off the ninth off Logan Ondrusek, Heyward's two-out single off Broxton brought Atlanta within 5-3, and the closer walked the next two hitters before getting Justin Upton to hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to end the game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati reliever Jumbo Diaz struck out Upton and Chris Johnson to end the eighth with two runners on base. … Cincinnati C Devin Mesoraco went 0-for-3 and is 1-for-32 in his past 10 games. … Heyward finished with two hits, extending his hitting streak to six games.
