Mets 4, Braves 3 (14): Curtis Granderson’s sacrifice fly scored Kirk Nieuwenhuis with the game-winner as host New York salvaged the finale of a weekend set.

Granderson, hitless in his last 16 at-bats, lofted a fly ball into left-center field with one out and Nieuwenhuis – who walked off Gus Schlosser (0-1) leading off the 14th – easily beat Justin Upton’s throw to the plate. David Wright extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a 4-for-6 performance and Lucas Duda added two hits for New York.

Jason Heyward finished 3-for-6 for the Braves but Atlanta hitters struck out 14 times. Jose Valverde (1-0), displaced as New York’s closer before the game, got the victory with a scoreless 14th.

Shaky defense put the Braves in an early 2-0 hole. Upton dropped Eric Young Jr.’s fly ball to start the game, Young later scoring on Wright’s groundout, and Dan Uggla’s error on Zack Wheeler’s grounder in the second brought home Duda.

The Braves surged ahead with a three-run fifth. David Hale scored when Granderson fielded Heyward’s double and threw the ball into the Atlanta dugout, and B.J. Upton and Freddie Freeman followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 3-2 Atlanta, but the Mets tied the contest on Duda’s fielder’s choice in the sixth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York P Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out five hitters in three innings of relief. … Freeman’s double in the fifth was the 100th of his career. … Both starters – Atlanta’s Hale and New York’s Wheeler – gave up three runs on six hits in six innings.
