Braves 7, Nationals 6 (10): Justin Upton’s bloop single to right plated Jordan Schafer from first base with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning as Atlanta rallied past Washington.

Upton, who tied the game in the eighth with his third homer in two days, lofted a short fly ball off Jerry Blevins (1-1) that dropped in front of Bryce Harper. Schafer, pinch running for Chris Johnson, was moving with the pitch and came all the way around as Harper was unable to cleanly field the ball.

Luis Avilan (2-1) worked around two walks in the 10th to get the victory as Atlanta beat Washington for the third time in four meetings this season. Harper finished 3-for-5 and Ryan Zimmerman added a three-run homer to pace Washington’s 14-hit attack.

Ramiro Pena’s three-run homer highlighted a four-run second for Atlanta, but Washington battled back to tie the game at 4 on Zimmerman’s three-run blast to left in the fifth. Denard Span’s single to center plated Harper and put the Nationals ahead 6-5 in the eighth, but Upton tied the game at 6 with a one-out line drive over the wall in center off Tyler Clippard.

Johnson and Upton each finished with three hits for the Braves, who have made a habit of beating their chief National League East rival by one run. Fourteen of the past 27 meetings have been decided by a single tally, Atlanta winning 10 of those 14 contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta starter Julio Teheran gave up five runs on 10 hits in six innings, but only two of the runs were earned. … Washington starter Tanner Roark lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits. … Washington’s Adam LaRoche was thrown out at home to end the seventh, the call upheld after Nationals manager Matt Williams challenged the call.
