Astros 8, Red Sox 1: Jose Altuve capitalized on an overturned challenge with his first career grand slam as part of a four-hit day, giving visiting Houston a split of the four-game series.

Dexter Fowler and Jon Singleton belted solo homers and Marc Krauss and Matt Dominguez had RBIs in a six-run second inning for the Astros, who improved to 2-9 all time in Boston. Collin McHugh (6-9) emerged victorious in his second straight outing following a nine-start winless drought, striking out six and giving up one run on seven hits over six innings.

Joe Kelly (2-3) was rocked in his Fenway Park debut, allowing seven runs on seven hits and a career-high six walks in four innings. Will Middlebrooks and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits apiece for the Red Sox, who scored their only run on Daniel Nava's RBI double in the third.

Houston pushed across two runs in the second but Kelly appeared to escape further damage by inducing Marwin Gonzalez to hit into an inning-ending double play. However, upon a video challenge, shortstop Xander Bogaerts was ruled to have thrown the ball to first base well before tagging the second base bag, keeping the inning alive.

Robbie Grossman followed by drawing a walk to load the bases and Altuve lined a hanging breaking ball into the seats in left to make it 6-0. Fowler belted a towering shot over the Red Sox bullpen in right to lead off the third before Boston got on the board in the bottom of the inning on Nava's run-scoring double.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Altuve was batting .182 (6-for-33) in his career with the bases loaded before swatting his first career grand slam, which preceded the third ejection of the season for Boston manager John Farrell, who contended the play is not reviewable. ... Boston 2B Brock Holt extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games and is the only Red Sox player with at least two 10-game strings this season. ... 2B Dustin Pedroia, who turned 31 on Sunday, was not in the starting lineup due to flu-like symptoms for Boston, which hosts the Los Angeles Angels on Monday in the opener of a four-game set while Houston continues its road trip at the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
