Yankees 7, Red Sox 4:
Brian McCann hit his first two homers with his new team and Carlos Beltran added a two-run blast as New York outslugged visiting Boston.

Alfonso Soriano and Kelly Johnson each hit a solo home run and Hiroki Kuroda (2-1) battled through 6 1/3 innings for the Yankees, allowing four runs and six hits while walking three. Three relievers bridged the gap to Shawn Kelley, who worked a spotless ninth for his second save.

A.J. Pierzynski hit his first home run for the Red Sox and Mike Carp singled in a pair. John Lackey (2-1) got the start for Boston and surrendered six runs on 10 hits - four home runs - while striking out six in 5 2/3 frames.

The Yankees had little trouble getting the ball into the air against Lackey and took a 2-0 lead on Beltran’s two-run blast to right in the first inning before restoring the two-run gap when McCann and Soriano went back-to-back in the fourth. McCann struck again in the sixth, ripping a 2-1 cutter into the bullpen in right-center for a two-run shot and a 6-2 cushion.

The Red Sox drew a pair of walks in the seventh to chase Kuroda and Matt Thornton hit Mike Napoli with a pitch to load the bases with two outs in front of Carp’s two-run single to left. Adam Warren struck out two in a perfect eighth for New York and has yet to allow a run in six appearances.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees CF and former Boston star Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-3 with a run scored and is 4-for-10 through the first three games of the series. … Red Sox RHP Koji Uehara (shoulder) was out for the second straight day and will reportedly long toss on Sunday before the team decides whether to send him back to Boston for testing. … New York SS Derek Jeter got his second day off of the season, with Dean Anna getting the start in his place.
