Orioles 11, Yankees 3: Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis each smacked a two-run homer and Jonathan Schoop added a late three-run shot as host Baltimore extended its lead in the AL East.

Cruz also had an early sacrifice fly and increased his team-leading RBI total to 83 as the Orioles moved six games ahead of Toronto and seven games ahead of New York. Bud Norris (10-7) picked up the victory after allowing three runs and five hits in five innings.

The Orioles' win may have come at a heavy price, however, as third baseman Manny Machado suffered a right knee sprain when his leg buckled on a grounder in the third inning. Machado was replaced in the lineup by Davis, who delivered the go-ahead blast in the fifth.

New York plated two runs on a bizarre play in the second inning when Carlos Beltran scored on a double steal, and two errant throws on the play allowed Chase Headley to come around from first base, giving the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Adam Jones' RBI single in the third brought Baltimore within 3-2, and the Orioles dominated from there.

Nick Markakis singled with one out in the fifth against New York starter Chris Capuano (1-3) and Davis followed with a blast well over the right-field wall. Two frames later, Jones doubled with two outs and Cruz slugged his 31st homer - a mammoth shot to left-center against Adam Warren to make it 7-3 - before Schoop's blast highlighted a four-run eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees SS Derek Jeter (1-for-4, RBI) tied former Royals star George Brett for ninth place on the all-time list for most games played in a career spent with one franchise at 2,707. If he stays healthy, Jeter will pass Mel Ott (2,730) next month. ... Jones went 3-for-5 and Cruz, Davis, Markakis and Schoop each added two hits for the Orioles, who have scored 36 runs in their last four games. ... Capuano was charged with four runs and six hits over six innings.
