Blue Jays 5, Orioles 1: Drew Hutchison allowed just one hit over 8 2/3 innings as host Toronto snapped its four-game losing streak and pulled within four games of American League East-leading Baltimore.

Hutchison (8-9), who registered eight strikeouts, retired the first four hitters he faced before giving up a solo homer by Chris Davis, then set down the next 22 hitters before walking Nick Markakis with two outs in the ninth. Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs while Melky Cabrera added three hits and scored twice as the Blue Jays maintained their hold on the second AL wild-card spot.

Davis homered in the second inning to account for his team's offense as the Orioles dropped to 7-3 in their last 10 contests. Wei-Yin Chen (12-4) saw his five-start winning streak come to an end, giving up four runs and eight hits in five frames.

Toronto scored a pair of runs in the first on back-to-back two-out singles by Dioner Navarro and Danny Valencia. Davis connected for his 19th homer with one out in the second to halve the deficit, but Cabrera doubled with two outs in the bottom of the frame and Bautista launched a 1-2 pitch over the left-field fence to make it 4-1.

Bautista’s two-out double in the sixth against T.J. McFarland plated Munenori Kawasaki to extend Toronto's lead. Hutchison, who had surrendered 18 runs on 26 hits in his previous 17 2/3 innings, threw 76 of his 115 pitches for strikes before Casey Janssen came on to get the final out.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hutchison has allowed two runs in 28 innings over four starts against the Orioles this season. … Toronto 3B Brett Lawrie underwent an MRI on Wednesday and did not play after leaving Tuesday’s contest with tightness in his back. … Davis homered for the second consecutive night. ... Bautista has reached base safely in 15 consecutive games.
