Ackley went 3-for-5 and scored twice and Kendrys Morales had two hits and two RBIs as the Mariners moved within two games of Toronto for the second wild-card spot in the American League. Manny Machado had three hits for the first-place Orioles, who remained 2 1/2 games ahead of the Blue Jays in the AL East.

Charlie Furbush retired Chris Davis on a fly to right with a runner aboard to end the eighth when the margin was two runs and Fernando Rodney allowed a run-scoring to Ryan Flaherty in the ninth before retiring Machado on a grounder with two runners on to end it in a non-save situation.

Austin Jackson singled with one out in the fifth and Ackley doubled before Cano drilled a liner off Miguel Gonzalez (5-6) that sailed over the high wall in right to make it 4-1. Baltimore got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Caleb Joseph led off with a homer to left before Morales pushed Seattle’s lead to 6-2 with a two-run single in the ninth.

Baltimore scored in the first when Nick Markakis walked, moved to third on a double by Machado and scored on Adam Jones’ grounder to second. Seattle tied the score in the third when Ackley smacked a one-out homer to right off Gonzalez, who allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Davis entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth after being held out of the starting lineup with Seattle starting the left-handed Paxton, who allowed two runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings in his first major-league appearance since April 8. … The Mariners placed OF/DH Corey Hart (knee) on the disabled list to open up a roster spot for Paxton. … The three-run margin snapped a string of seven consecutive one-run contests for Baltimore.
