Orioles 4, Angels 2: Jonathan Schoop hit a two-run homer and Miguel Gonzalez carried a shutout into the eighth inning as visiting Baltimore edged Los Angeles.

Gonzalez (5-5) allowed only two singles by Efren Navarro and four walks before departing after surrendering Mike Trout’s 24th home run – a two-run shot – with two out in the eighth. Tommy Hunter retired Albert Pujols to get the final out of the eighth and Zach Britton struck out a pair during a flawless ninth for his 18th save.

Navarro singled in the third and again in the fifth to account for the only other hits by Los Angeles, which saw its streak of winning 10 straight home series snapped after also dropping Monday’s opener in this three-game set. Hector Santiago traded zeroes with Gonzalez through five frames, but Mike Morin (2-3) came on in relief and yielded three runs in his only inning of work.

Gonzalez diffused the Angels’ first two scoring opportunities, getting out of the third on a double play and striking out Hank Conger with two on to end the fifth. Morin began the sixth with back-to-back strikeouts, but Chris Davis reached on a two-out infield single and scored from first moments later when he slid under the tag at home on J.J. Hardy’s double to the gap in right-center.

Schoop widened the gap shortly thereafter, following Hardy’s run-scoring hit by driving an 0-1 fastball over the fence in center. The Orioles added an insurance run in the top of the eighth as Nelson Cruz doubled off Fernando Salas and scored easily on Hardy’s two-out line down the right-field line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baltimore 3B Manny Machado was scratched before the game due to back spasms while Los Angeles SS Erick Aybar (sore right groin) got the start for the first time in four games and went 0-for-4. … The Angels are 3-4 in Anaheim following an 11-game home winning streak. … The Orioles have hit 68 home runs since the beginning of June and 122 for the season, both of which are major league-leading marks.
