Orioles 4, Angels 2: Adam Jones posted his fifth career multi-homer performance with a pair of two-run shots as Baltimore opened its three-game set at Los Angeles with a win.

Bud Norris (8-6) struck out eight en route to recording his fifth victory in six outings, allowing two runs - one earned - on eight hits and a pair of walks over 6 2/3 innings to improve to 4-0 in five career starts against the Angels. Nick Markakis added two hits and scored twice for the Orioles, who improved to 13-6 over their last 19 road games.

Josh Hamilton and Hank Conger each singled in a run for the Angels, who fell to 14-4 in July after entering Monday with a major league-best 34-16 record at home. Matt Shoemaker (7-3) matched a career high with 10 strikeouts but gave up both of Jones’ blasts to suffer only his second loss since April 12.

Baltimore struck quickly as Markakis led off the game with a single and Jones hammered a 2-0 fastball into the Angels’ bullpen. Kole Calhoun reached on a single in the bottom of the first inning, moved to second when Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy committed a throwing error on a grounder and scored two batters later on Hamilton’s floater over second baseman Jonathan Schoop.

Los Angeles knotted it in the fourth as Howie Kendrick delivered a ground-rule double to begin the frame and scored when Conger scorched a grounder past second. The game remained even until the sixth, when Markakis doubled and Jones smacked a low 1-1 slider over the fence in left-center. Zach Britton made it stand, working a flawless ninth for his 17th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Markakis became the sixth player in team history to record at least 20 doubles in nine seasons with a two-base hit in the sixth. … Kendrick went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to six games and is batting .400 this month. … Baltimore 3B Manny Machado went 0-for-3 with a strikeout to snap his career-high 19-game on-base streak.
