Nationals 6, Orioles 2:
Jayson Werth homered, doubled and drove in a pair of runs as visiting Washington moved into sole possession of first place in the National League East.

Wilson Ramos and Ian Desmond swatted solo homers and Adam LaRoche had two RBIs as the Nationals avenged Monday's 8-2 loss to the Orioles in the opener of the rain-shortened, home-and-home interleague series. Doug Fister (8-2) allowed two runs on seven hits over seven innings to improve to 8-1 in his last 10 starts.

Manny Machaco went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and Chris Davis had two hits and an RBI single for Baltimore, which lost for only the second time in nine games. Bud Norris (7-6) has his four-start win streak snapped in his first appearance since June 21, lasting only four-plus innings and permitting five runs on six hits

Werth followed a double by Anthony Rendon with one of his own and scored on LaRoche's single for a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Orioles got a run back in the bottom of the inning on Davis' RBI single. The Nationals extended the lead to 4-1 with solo homers by Ramos in the second and Desmond in the fourth.

Machado continued to crush Washington's pitching with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, but LaRoche's sacrifice fly in the fifth restored the three-run lead. Werth provided an insurance run with two outs in the seventh, hitting his ninth homer into the seats in left off Brad Brach

GAME NOTEBOOK: Machado is 8-for-10 in the first two games of the series and 12-for-21 during a six-game hitting streak. ... Ramos' blast ran his hitting streak to 12 games but LF Bryce Harper was hitless in four at-bats and is 4-for-28 with 11 strikeouts in eight games since coming off the disabled list. ... The teams will play a makeup game of Tuesday's postponement on Aug. 4 at 7:05 p.m. in Washington.
