Rockies 2, Diamondbacks 0: Matt McBride and Charlie Blackmon hit solo homers while rookie Tyler Matzek allowed three hits in seven innings as Colorado scored a rare road victory.

Matzek (4-9) won his second straight start as the Rockies snapped a four-game slide while improving to 4-18 on the road since the All-Star break. Three pitchers worked the eighth inning, and LaTroy Hawkins yielded a walk and a single with two out in the ninth before striking out pinch hitter Didi Gregorius to earn his 22nd save in 23 chances.

Vidal Nuno (2-9) retired the final 20 batters he faced after McBride's homer and allowed one other hit - Nolan Arenado's single in the first - while striking out seven in eight innings. Nuno fell to 0-4 in 10 starts with Arizona as the Diamondbacks lost for only the second time in their last nine games against Colorado.

McBride belted an 0-1 pitch with one out in the second over the Diamondbacks bullpen in left - his second homer since being recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Aug. 19. The Rockies didn't record another hit until Blackmon deposited a 1-0 offering from Matt Stites into the pool in right-center with one out in the ninth.

Matzek retired seven straight batters before Cliff Pennington led off the sixth with a single. The Diamondbacks had runners on first and second with one out in the eighth before Christian Friedrich struck out David Peralta and Adam Ottavino retired Mark Trumbo when Arenado charged a slow-roller and threw out Trumbo by a step.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Matzek has yielded two runs in 14 innings over his last two starts after compiling a 7.89 ERA in his previous four turns - all losses. ... Colorado hasn't scored more than three runs on the road in nine games since 5-3 victory in 10 innings at Arizona on Aug. 10. ... Rockies C Michael McKenry is 2-for-24 in his last seven contests.
