Dodgers 3, Diamondbacks 1: Clayton Kershaw struck out 10 over eight innings to become the first 16-game winner in the major leagues as visiting Los Angeles completed a sweep of the two-game series.

Matt Kemp recorded a two-run double and Scott Van Slyke swatted a solo homer to provide all the offense Kershaw needed as the Dodgers remained five games in front of San Francisco atop the National League West. Kershaw (16-3) gave up one run on six hits while lowering his ERA to a major league-best 1.73 before Kenley Jansen got the final three outs for his 38th save.

Ender Inciarte had a pair of hits and reached base three times for Arizona, which lost for the ninth time in 11 games. Wade Miley (7-10) gave up three runs over six innings to remain winless over his last five starts.

Los Angeles scored three times in the third, when Dee Gordon reached on a leadoff bunt and Yasiel Puig walked before Kemp plated both with a booming double to deep center field, but he was tossed out trying to stretch it into a triple. The Diamondbacks loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Kershaw retired Aaron Hill and Mark Trumbo to end the threat.

Arizona got on the board in the fourth, getting a leadoff double from Alfredo Marte and a single by Jordan Pacheco. The Diamondbacks also had something stirring in the fifth as Inciarte ripped a leadoff triple, but Kershaw escaped the jam with a pair of strikeouts sandwiched around a popout.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Van Slyke improved to 8-for-18 with four homers lifetime against Miley before exiting with a mild right ankle sprain in the bottom of the fourth inning. ... Trumbo went 1-for-4 to extend his home hitting streak to 11 games. ... LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (strained gluteal muscle) threw two innings in a simulated game Wednesday for the Dodgers, who open a three-game series at San Diego on Friday. Arizona opens a three-game series against visiting Colorado the same night.
